Elytra England

Handcrafted Contemporary Accessories

Clouds of insects danced and buzzed in the golden autumn light, and the air was full of the piping of the song-birds. Long glinting dragon-flies shot across the path, or hung tremulous with gauzy wings and gleaming bodies.
— Arthur Conan Doyle, The White Company

My name is Justine. I'm a leather worker and part time scientist living and working in Frome, Somerset with my family.

I take a lot of inspiration from nature and one of my favourite things to do is to head off out with my whippet Reuben and my camera, taking photos of things around me.

Why Elytra?

The name Elytra comes from the scientific name for the outer wing cases of beetles. Having been an entomologist (someone who studies insects) in the past, it seemed to fit pretty well as a name for my business.

I like to use natural colours of leather and contrast these with vibrant suedes, drawing inspiration from the colours found in nature.

100% Handmade

Every piece in my shop is designed and made by me. I like to work with vegetable tanned leather, because a more natural process is used for tanning. I try and source supplies as locally as possible - most of my suppliers and manufacturers are UK based.

Each item is made with great care and attention to detail, with the aim that it will be enjoyed for years to come. I hope you enjoy visiting my shop
